Headlong collision of free jazz, extreme noise and rock power – Scandic power/improv trio The Thing take no prisoners. Pumped-up saxophonist Mats Gustafsson fronts the killing rhythm team of bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and drummer Paal Nilssen-Love create music that rocks the soul. Taking inspiration from a 1966 Don Cherry track, transforming themes that roam from PJ Harvey and White Stripes to Albert Ayler and Steve Lacy, collaborating with the likes of Neneh Cherry, Sonic Youth, and even Pat Metheny – this is one of today’s signature bands. “The sonic equivalent of the Hulk doing battle with Godzilla, it bursts out of the speakers in a seething mass of molten bass saxophone, filthy fuzz bass and machine gun snare” (The Quietus)
